HABERDASHERY CASTLE
This castle located not far from Villebois-Lavalette, is considered as the "Little Versailles of Charente"
Château de la Mercerie is considered the "Little Versailles of Charente", such is its unrivalled beauty. It was originally a neo-Gothic manor house dating from the 19th century. In 1924, brothers Alphonse and Raymond Réthoré acquired the château, decided to enlarge it, and then assembled a collection of works of art that added to the enchantment of the place. On their death, the building was abandoned and its collections dispersed. Under the impetus of the commune and an association, the château was restored and can now be visited, along with the park and arboretum.
