LIZARRIETA PASS
A pass at 441 m altitude, once a favorite smuggling spot, now used as a counting station.
Go up to this pass, located at 441 m of altitude. The road is narrow and twists and turns for about ten kilometers through a forest. Once a favorite smuggling spot, it is now used as a counting station and for scientific monitoring of bird migration. Stop at the Hordago restaurant on the plateau and go down the road to the beautiful Basque village of Etxalar in Spain. You will return to France via Bidasoa and Ibardin, unless you drive to Irún. The route is winding, but beautiful in good weather.
