Visit the Notre-Dame-des-Lépreux chapel in Montbron, on a popular route to Santiago de Compostela
The polychrome wooden Virgin and Child and part of the chapel date from the classical period (17th century). The façade, pierced by colonnades, enabled lepers, who stayed outside, to attend services. Montbron was on a busy route to Compostela, and the town was exposed to contamination. Leprosaria and sick homes were set up outside the towns, and in Montbron, they were built close to this small chapel dedicated to Notre-Dame du Bon Secours.
