OLD CASTLE
Often redesigned and rebuilt, this old castle dominates the town of Montbron and recalls the stories of the town's rich past.
The seigneury of Montbron was founded under Chilperic I, grandson of Clovis, by one of his servants, Bérulphe, in 567. Of course, nothing remains of the original wooden construction, nor of the 9th-century fortress. Following the destruction ordered by King Charles VII, the château was refurbished in the 15th century by King François I's cousin. The polygonal tower remains. In summer, the château hosts art exhibitions
