NOTRE-DAME-DE-LA-PIERRE ECOMUSEUM OF THE ASPE VALLEY
Ecomuseum recounting the legend of Notre-Dame de la Pierre, virgin of Sarrance until the century
It is one of the four sites of the Aspe Valley Ecomuseum. It is dedicated to the legend of Notre-Dame de la Pierre, a virgin of Sarrance. In this one, a statue of the Virgin would have appeared on the village site, so it was necessary to build a church to accommodate it. From this emerged a tradition of pilgrimage on the first Sunday in September and the town of Sarrance became a religious sanctuary in the 14th century. The museum recounts the resulting history with a giant model of the valley where villages and peaks are identified, 24 resorts that cannot be ignored in this legend. A slide show commented by Marcel Amont staged it and the visit took place in five rooms on two floors: the one of the pilgrimage, with its lights and songs, unveiled pious scenes from the 1930s in an atmosphere of very intimate meditation, the one of the legend in a 12-minute audiovisual show and two others dealt with the history of Sarrance. An unfailing presence in the city of Béarn!
