SAINT VINCENT CHAPEL
Small castral chapel in Confolens, with Greek plan, transept and nave of the same size
In the shadow of the château de Saint-Germain de Confolens, this small castral chapel, which became a parish church in the 15th century, has the rare feature of having a Greek cross plan, i.e. the apse, transept and nave are of the same dimensions. The Saint Vincent chapel was built within the fortified walls of the château and stands on the rocky spur overlooking the village. It is flanked by a small cemetery sloping down to the steep Issoire valley. A footpath leads down to the riverbank. Above, the Bellevue cross offers a panoramic view.
