HOUSE OF THE DUKE OF EPERNON
Beautiful residence used as an inn, salt warehouse and guild headquarters
The Duc d'Epernon never lived here... Go figure! There's no shortage of mystery surrounding this beautiful half-timbered 15th-century residence. What was it used for: an inn, a salt warehouse, a guild headquarters? Was it within these walls that Marie de Médicis, a prisoner in Blois, prepared her escape in 1619? It's located in the Rue du Soleil, the town's main thoroughfare in the Middle Ages. Once a single block, it was split in two in the 16th century. The house has been listed as a historic monument since 1974.
