SAINT-GERMAIN-DE-CONFOLENS CASTLE
Castle with remains of a 12th century keep, 13th and 15th century towers, main building, 15th century cellars for defense and storage
At the confluence of the Vienne and Issoire rivers, the present-day Château de Saint-Germain-de-Confolens is the result of a succession of architectural developments over the centuries: remains of a 12th-century keep, 13th- and 15th-century towers, 15th-century main building and gunboats, giving it a mix of pleasant and martial appearance. The tower overlooking the Issoire River, which once housed the kitchens, is the most impressive, with a vast chimney still standing. The 15th-century cellars add another angle to the discovery of the building.
Here's a château that hasn't yet revealed all its secrets.
