SAN MARTIN'S CHAPEL OF SUNARTHE
Romanesque chapel founded in 1250 where a small knight of Sillègue was buried, restored and presenting a nostalgic interior
This Romanesque chapel was built in 1250. In the tradition of modest buildings, it was first of all an abbey, completing the house and land. There is buried a small knight of Sillègue, who died in 1765 at just 20 months old and descended from Tamonet de Sillègue and therefore far from Armand de Sillègue d'Athos and Autevielle, the king's musketeer, commonly known as Athos. Like this baby, the chapel faced a tragic fate with, in 1916, major devastation, its roof was washed away during a cyclone. Subsequently, infiltration and rain gradually ruined the building. In 1994, the association Les Amis du Vieux Sauveterre decided to restore the building. You can admire the exterior of this "house of God" filled with nostalgia. Located 1.5 km from the centre of Sauveterre, you can reach this church by road or, like pilgrims, by the paths of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle along the river.
