THE MONREAL TOWER
Tower of 37 meters high which contains in its heart an incredible work of meticulousness in Sauveterre-de-Béarn
A defensive element, the 37-metre high Monréal Tower remains very impressive in the heart of Sauveterre. Its architecture makes it possible to locate its construction between the end of the 12th century and the beginning of the 13th century and it was classified as a Historic Monument in 1886. It contains in its heart an incredible work of meticulousness that will propel you to the time of its splendour and take you into medieval Béarn until the 16th century. In a modern and playful scenography, unexpected in these places, you will find the reconstruction of the city of Sauveterre, made of thousands of stones, beams and joists to the hundredth, calibrated and assembled. This titanic work was carried out by André-Joseph Gastellu, associate professor of drawing, and maintained by the association Les Amis du vieux Sauveterre. It goes without saying that this is exceptional, both in terms of precision and beauty. All around the spaces dedicated to the heritage and the great hours of the city, but also of Béarn and Navarre are presented. A small chiseled jewel nestled in a fortified setting: a beautiful rendezvous with what men can achieve, from the immensely large to the infinitely small.
