L'ÎLE DE LA GLÈRE
Sauveterre-de-Béarn is a magnificent village built above the river Oloron. In the middle of it, the island of the Glère has been developed with a short itinerary to discover the fauna and flora of the river. This place is a classified natural site. It is home to many protected plant species. Considered as the fourth monument of the city, this island cuts it in half. While walking on it, you will have the opportunity to learn and understand nature, its exceptional flora, its functioning and legends, thanks to several panels along the way. Data that can be approached thanks to regular monitoring by the ONF, with many protected species being highlighted: black poplar, boxwood, lichens... Nature and old stones are at the heart of this visit to the medieval city. In addition to the educational aspect, this walk is also a small escapade in nature during which the noise of the watercourse is omnipresent. In good weather, the view of the mountains and the old town is superb!
