ST. PETER'S CHURCH
The church of Saint-Pierre in Segonzac, has a beautiful bell tower with a spire made of interlocking stones
Saint-Pierre church, built in the 12th century, retains its original bell tower and porch. Above the porch, a blind gallery of arcatures, typical of the Roman era, conceals the lower part of the bell tower. The church was part of the Saintes diocese until the 15th century, when it was largely destroyed. It was then rebuilt. Its conical spire of interlocking stone scales is reminiscent of a pine cone. It's a sober, elegant Romanesque achievement for this part of the Saintonge region.
