ST. STEPHEN'S CHURCH
Church that constitutes a landmark for all those who sail, crowned by a large bracketed spire painted in black and white
This monument alone symbolizes Ars-en-Ré. As you enter the village, you'll notice the large, black-and-white, hooked spire that crowns this church. Built in the 15th century, it has long served as a landmark for navigators. Even today, it remains a landmark for sailors. Listed as a Monument Historique in 1903, the building's architecture is original, with a Romanesque and a Gothic church intertwined. It underwent extensive restoration work, which was completed in the summer of 2019.
