SAINT-PIERRE CHURCH
A remarkable church, masterpiece of the Romanesque art of Poitou, with rich sculpted decorations, on an ancient Gallo-Roman road.
Situated on an ancient Gallo-Roman road, this church has long been a stopover for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. This masterpiece of Poitevin Romanesque art is notable for its architecture, tombstones and 14th-century hosannière cross. Admire the rich sculptural decorations, such as the central portal illustrating the "saintongeais sermon", and the south portal, the jewel in the crown of this monument, which is one of four sites in Charente-Maritime listed as a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
