In the centre of the village, the keep, built at the same time as the church, remains the last vestige of the feudal castle of Aulnay, which Du Guesclin took over from the English in 1372. Partly destroyed during the various assaults and then restored under the reign of François I, this first castle formed a large building with three corner towers. The one left is called the dungeon. It gives an idea of the importance of the building during the time of the Viscounts of Aulnay.
