This Romanesque church, listed as a historic monument, is one of the best-known in the Saintonge region
Built in the 12th century on 9th-century ruins, this Romanesque church, listed as a Monument Historique, is one of the best-known in the Saintonge region. Its richly decorated facade is magnificent in the setting sun, as are its elegant apse and carefully restored seigneurial chapels. Although the Wars of Religion wreaked havoc on the banks of the Charente, legend has it that the Protestants, amazed by such beauty, dared not destroy it.
