SO-CALLED "NEEDLE SCARE
This redoubt, whose role was to prevent the enemy from attacking Fouras, was one of the largest built on the coast.
This monument - bought by the commune in 2001 - can be seen from the Pointe de la Fumée, at the narrowest point of the Fouras peninsula. It is the largest of the redoubts built on the coast around 1673. Today, it only has contact with the sea on its southern side. Built at the same time as Fort Lapointe, its purpose was to protect the town and the entrance to the Charente in the event of an English attack. It is not open to the public.
