SAINT-PIERRE CHURCH
Church decorated with stained glass windows that recall certain episodes in the creation of New France
This church was opened for worship in 1608, the year Quebec was founded. Although rather austere, it is decorated with stained glass windows that recall certain episodes in the creation of New France, including the building of Quebec City and the post on Île Sainte-Croix. A Canadian soldier's helmet, dating from the Second World War, hangs on the wall as a tribute to the Canadians who fell for France. It is said that after his return from Quebec City in 1629, Champlain prayed in this place that Canada, taken by the English, would be returned to France.
