FORT LIÉDOT
The fort once housed a 600-strong garrison, and is now home to exhibitions that can be viewed on a self-guided basis.
Formerly known as Fort de la Sommité, this monument was commissioned by Napoleon I, who wanted a model fort that would be "indestructible and impregnable". Work began in 1810 and was completed in 1834. At the time, the site could accommodate a garrison of 600 men. Owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral for over a century, Fort Liédot is now home to an exhibition entitled "Les Mystères du Fort Boyard" (The Mysteries of Fort Boyard). Children can search the fort for clues and learn more about the building on a guided tour.
