Ruins of a former Cistercian abbey founded in the 12th century in La Flotte, the oldest religious building on the island of Ré.

Founded in the 12th century by the Cistercians, the abbey is the oldest religious building on the island. You will see the remains by taking the road leading to the village of La Flotte. The place is bucolic, the ancient abbey of the Châteliers, built between sea and sky, can be admired in the early morning when the first rays of sunshine caress it or in the evening at dusk. You can see these majestic ruins, those of a monument created by the Cistercian monks who brought to the people of Rétais the techniques of the culture of the vine.
