The Saint-Barthélemy bell tower, the last vestige of the Saint-Barthélemy church in La Rochelle.
Take a look up Rue Aufrédy! You'll be amazed to see a bell tower in the middle of the houses! It's the last vestige of the Saint-Barthélemy church. Today, it is still a witness to the tensions between Catholics and Protestants, as it is the only one to have survived the demolition of the church by the Protestants in 1568. The building, which has long been the town's highest point, has benefited from major renovation work.
