SAINT-SAUVEUR CHURCH
The Church of Saint-Sauveur, one of La Rochelle's most symbolic maritime monuments.
It is one of the symbolic monuments of the maritime city. The first building was erected by the monks of the Île d'Aix before being destroyed. Rebuilt, it was again destroyed by Protestants in 1568. Only the Gothic rose window remains. A third church was built, only to be destroyed by fire once again. A new grant will no doubt enable the addition of two bells (the first two are still being restored), enabling the belfry to be rung again - a first since 1993!
