As you cross the bridge, you'll no doubt want to make your way to the Baleines lighthouse. But don't miss the Chauveau lighthouse. Although it can't be visited, it's well worth a look, as it's the only open-ocean lighthouse in Charente-Maritime! Built under the reign of Louis XIV, it warns of coastal dangers and guides ships. The white-and-red tower may look thin enough to resist the waves, but it has never collapsed. It's a great place to fish on foot, and a well-known spot for clam lovers.
