DEFENCE HISTORICAL SERVICE
In Rochefort, the south-western division of the SHD, now established in the former barracks of the Crews of the Fleet within the Martrou enclosure, has its origins on the one hand in the archives of the Port and its maritime district (from the Vendée to the Spanish border) and on the other hand in the Port Library created in 1836 from the books of the School of Hydrography. A treasure! 7 linear kilometres of archive collections made up of specific documents produced by French Navy vessels, such as logbooks, armament and campaign estimates, crew roles..
