A 1,000 m² conservatory, featuring a plant called begonia, which was discovered during a mission to the West Indies.
Rochefort and the begonia go back a long way. Although Michel Begon - a naval steward and collector - gave the plant its name, it was Charles Plumier who discovered it during a mission to the West Indies. For over 30 years, the Cité de Colbert has showcased this plant in a greenhouse where some 2,000 colorful species grow. Let us tell you the story of the begonia on a guided tour that's as instructive as it is fascinating.
