BUJOLIERS MUSEUM
Museum of local history, presenting objects of the daily life of Saintonge, such as the distillery or the washing machines
This museum of local history is quite surprising. First of all because it presents various objects of daily life in Saintonge in the 19th century, such as a distillery or a set of bujours, the washing machines of the time whose name comes from "bujhée" (the great washing powder). In the adjoining rooms, you will discover the home of a woman from Saint-Césaire who lived there at the time of Napoleon III. The visit of Célina Vinet's kitchen, bedroom and hallway is moving. This inhabitant of Saint-Césaire donated her house to the town hall at the end of her life, some thirty years ago. In the cupboards are still stored his piles of sheets. The dishes, placed in the drainer near the stone sink, are waiting to be put away. The chamber pot is placed at the foot of the bed. As if the lady of the house had just gone out for a run.
