ROMANIC CHURCH
Church built in the 12th century, with a beautiful facade characteristic of the Romanesque art of Saintonge
This building, the oldest and undoubtedly the most interesting on the island, is a listed historic monument. Built in the 11th and 12th centuries (when it stood in the middle of the cemetery), the church boasts a beautiful façade typical of Saintongean Romanesque art. It is thought to have been fortified in the past as a retreat from pirate raids. It was enlarged in the 17th century, this time in the Renaissance style. After being plundered, it was rebuilt on Romanesque remains, of which it has preserved some fine remains.
