The museum is named after the founder of La Samaritaine, who was born in Saint-Martin. Listed as a Monument Historique since 1929, this residence is considered to be the finest example of civil architecture on the Ile de Ré. It houses an impressive collection of objets d'art, ethnological objects and ancient documents. Visitors are immersed in the history of the island, from the earliest settlements to the departure for the penal colony, before discovering the village via a passage near the fortifications.
