Fountain-tank which allowed the boats built in the arsenal of Rochefort to refuel in fresh water
This fountain-reservoir allowed the boats built in the arsenal of Rochefort to refuel in fresh water before taking the sea. Its architecture is of classical style, from the middle of the 18th century. The present fountain was completely rebuilt in 1763 by Onésime Augias, a naval engineer. This royal fountain and its hydraulic network (including the Fountain of the Dead of 1676, and that of Fontpourry, located nearby) constitute a unique ensemble in France. Next to this building, there is a quality restaurant.
