SAINT-SAVINIAN CHURCH
Building of Gothic and Romanesque saintongeais styles, distinguished by a dark facade composed of a portal with five arches
It's one of the must-sees in this pretty village in the Saintonge Dorée region, and offers a delightful view over the rooftops of the neighborhoods and the river against which the town nestles. Built of local stone between the 12th and 13th centuries, the monument is a blend of Gothic and Romanesque Saintonge styles. Damaged during the Hundred Years' War, the church's facade is distinguished by its sobriety, with a large five-arched portal flanked by two blind bays. The site is magnificent, as much for its architecture as for its belvedere.
