A square with market halls, a beautiful half-timbered building, a church and an impressive vaulted underground fountain.
The medieval heart of Airvault, redeveloped in 2002. The XIXth century covered market (market on Saturday morning), a beautiful timber-framed building, the Saint-Pierre church, founded in the Xth century, are all there. Its facade presents a representation of the 24 elders of the Apocalypse as well as a vestige of an equestrian statue of the emperor Constantine. The interior is characteristic of the Plantagenet style (booklets available). Finally, take a look at the impressive vaulted underground fountain (12th century): just ask for the key at the tourist office or at the abbey.
