GARDEN OF THE CHÂTEAU DE LA GUYONNIÈRE
Garden on an island divided into nine, offering a variety of fruits, flowers, plants and herbs with a pond, bench and other features.
Created in 1987 by landscape designer Alain Richert, this island garden is divided into nine enclosures linked by two fire-twisted wooden arbors covered with vines and rose bushes. Each one mixes several varieties of fruits, flowers, plants and herbs. The clos des Abeilles is adorned with four old-fashioned beehives built according to a 15th-century illumination. Melliferous plants decorate the composition in order to provide the bees with nectar and pollen. The clos des Paradis houses a basin and a bench covered with woodruff, violets and wild thyme. On a plant platform, in the shade of old trees on which roses lean, musicians and comedians come to liven up the beautiful days and summer evenings. Further on, the Clos des Choux becomes, depending on the season, the Clos des Poisons. The aconites, centaureas, camomile, columbines and anthemis make up the subtle decor. Two clos de plantes médiévales hide various plants. Those of the Veronica plants show tansy, pimprenelle, euphorbia and briar, while that of the Willow is strewn with peonies, acanthus, lily of the valley, borage and iris. Finally, a small fruit garden, two collection shrub gardens and a butterfly garden can be discovered along the way. Crossing the drawbridge, under the eye of the 14th century fortress, surrounded by a moat and still in its original state, one has the impression of having gone back in time.
