CHURCH OF OUR LADY
The church is also worth a visit for its stained glass windows, organ and limestone south portal.
Founded at the end of the 10th century by Thibault I de Beaumont, this priory has undergone numerous alterations over the centuries. Its 12th-century nave, with vaulted ceilings, is characteristic of the Angevin style. The bell tower, built during the Renaissance, towers 56 meters above the town. The former Romanesque choir was replaced at the same time by a sanctuary, frescoed some 300 years later and rediscovered during restoration work. The church is also notable for its stained glass windows, organ and limestone south portal, typical of the Saintonge Romanesque style.
