NOTRE-DAME-DE-PITIÉ DE LA CHAPELLE-SAINT-LAURENT
Remarkable neo-Gothic church in La Chapelle, home to a sculpture that was badly damaged during the Wars of Religion.
Notre-Dame-de-Pitié, built between 1891 and 1925 in neo-Gothic style, will surprise you with its majesty and atmosphere. Dedicated to Mary, it houses a sculpture that was badly damaged during the Wars of Religion. Since 1873, with the erection of its 7-fountain calvary (unique in the 79), its pilgrimage has been one of the most emblematic and fervent in France. In 1964, Pope Paul VI elevated it to the rank of minor basilica. Important Assumption Day ceremonies are still held here.
