THE CHAMBRILLE VALLEY
The Chambrille valley, rich in schist and garnet from thousands of years ago, gives the landscape its distinctive character
Varied, verdant landscapes, babbling water and a unique geology of rocky spurs. That's all it took for a famous legend to be invented by man... To be discovered! For thousands of years, the Vallée de Chambrille has been rich in schist and garnet, giving the landscape its distinctive character.
Here's the legend of the valley: Castel de Font Querré stood in the Chambrille valley. Berthe, the castellan's daughter, was madly in love with her neighbor, Guy de Trémont, who reciprocated her affection. Unfortunately, her insensitive father gave her in marriage to Baron Tutebert, whose rigid name was certainly a guarantee of a better match. The two lovers are obviously grieving, so secret rendezvous are organized between the two young lovers. Whether the drama that ensued was due to their youth or their foolishness (or both) is anyone's guess, but the two lovers weren't discreet enough, as the Baron, feeling himself growing horns, caught the two young men in the act and stabbed them without further ado. Berthe was petrified and became the schist rock known as "Dame de Chambrille", while Guy went up the valley to his land of Trémont, where he died, leaving behind the drops of blood that are now the garnets in the Chambrille stream.
