THE PLANT GARDEN
The Jardin des Plantes located in Niort, providing plants and trees of all kinds, shimmering the iris and flattering the nostrils.
That's as far as the town goes. A no-go zone for fuel fumes, the sound of society rushing by. This is also where the Marais Poitevin begins. If you're looking for the green Venice... take a little detour through this little patch of greenery. A haven of peace called the Jardin des Plantes, which stretches out on both banks of the Sèvre, at the end of the Quai de la Régatterie and in the continuity of the Parc du Pré-Leroy. On a hillside, in the lower part of the old town, a garden has been laid out with plants and trees of all kinds, shimmering the iris and flattering the nostrils.
A few steps lost in this park, a few moments that slip away in this place are as many investments for the morale. From the bottom of the town to the Vivier dam, which supplies Niort with water, the route leads through sloping alleys once the Jardin des Plantes has been left behind. And we end this short journey, this little breath of fresh air, with a gradual return to the active life of the metropolis with a passage at the top of the old town where the majestic Du Guesclin barracks stands.
