This is one of the oldest neighbourhoods of the citadel. Of medieval origin, it is cited in the official texts as of 1060. Located near the Thouet, it is the ideal district for the furs who work their skins, very famous. This activity will remain until the last store closes in 1955. From the th century, the furs will also welcome white sucker to Saint Paul. Today, this trade remains only rue des Furs, memory of those who made the fortunes of the Faubourg.
