EGLISE SAINT-MAIXENT
This church shelters treasures which earned it a classification as a historical monument in 1911
Saint-Maixent was built in the 11th century. The church will be largely reworked over the years, burned in 1568 and then restored again. During the Revolution, it was used as a wood and fodder store and then as a decadal temple. The treasures hidden in the church are still there today, which earned it a classification as a Historic Monument in 1911: a 12th century transept associated with a flamboyant Gothic style construction, Romanesque capitals, a 14th century altarpiece as well as an astonishing representation of the fairy Mélusine.
