CHÂTEAU DE SAINT-MESMIN
Medieval castle near Bressuire, with a host of family activities.
Ideal for toddlers! The former seigneury of Pierre de Montfaucon, built around 1370 and fortified from the 15th century onwards. The property was affected by the Vendée wars. Once surrounded by a moat, the building retains its châtelet entrance, accessible via a restored drawbridge. Explore the living quarters, pantry, kitchen, keep and parapet walk, where many period features remain. The castle's strong point: mediation. Escape games, re-enactments, animations: in summer, visits are dramatized and actors bring the castle to life.
