ABBEY CHURCH OF SAINT-MAIXENT
Romanesque and flamboyant Gothic church, with interesting elements and sarcophagi of Saints Maixent and Léger
Built in the 12th century on the site of two buildings (7th and 11th centuries), of which some remains remain: two windows in the south transept and columns in the crypt. Partially destroyed during the Hundred Years' War and then during the Wars of Religion, the church was altered several times, notably by François Leduc. Both Romanesque and flamboyant Gothic, it presents some very interesting elements, apart from its dimensions and its light: a rare rood screen from the 17th century as well as the sarcophagi of Saints Maixent and Léger (6th - 17th centuries).
