SOVILEG
For hundreds of years, lamb has been produced in the Centre West region of France and is renowned for the quality of its meat. This is where Sovileg, a family business, set up its slaughterhouses. All the French lamb carcasses it markets are certified as Origin France Garantie.
History. In 1934, Louis Lepoureau (whose name means "little shepherd") started his animal trading business. Sovileg was created in 1995 by Louis-Marie Lepoureau in the northern part of the Deux-Sèvres department. With 500 to 600 lambs slaughtered per week, it is one of the major players in the regional sheep sector. In 2000, Sovileg bought back the municipal slaughterhouses and increased their slaughter capacity to 120 lambs per hour. In 2005, Louis-Marie Lepoureau's son, Rodolphe, joined the site. Together, they market 2,000 lambs per week. In 2010, SA Lepoureau (assembly centre) merged with Sovileg. After the slaughterhouse has been brought up to standard and a new sheep chain has been created, slaughter capacity increases to 250 lambs per hour, and 4,500 lambs are marketed per week. The Lepoureau allotment centre (a breeding technique that groups livestock in batches) has a capacity of about 3,000 sheep spread over three buildings.
The products. Vendeen, Charolais, Rouge de l'Ouest, Texel, Suffolk, Charmoise and Ile-de-France.
Employment. In 2017, the company has 58 employees, 5,549 tonnes produced and 36,036,580 euros in turnover.
