CHURCH OF SAINT GILLES
This church has undergone many alterations, but has retained a magnificent Romanesque portal with 5 voussures.
The parish church of Saint-Gilles (11th century, granite) has undergone numerous alterations, but has preserved its Romanesque portal, a treasure in terms of its design, its iconographic program (in tufa stone) and the quality of its sculptures, harbingers of the Gothic period. Listed as a Monument Historique and restored some twenty years ago, this 5-arched tympanum is similar to the Saintonge style. It is a remarkable illustration of the struggle between good and evil, featuring Paradise (the parable of poor Lazarus) and Hell (the damned rushing into the open mouth of Leviathan).
