POCHAS MILL FALUNARIA
A warm sea, au in the tertiary age, separated Brittany from the continent. From this sea episode of tertiary time we remain the faluns. This geological site, unique in Poitou-Charentes, consists of coarse sand of ochre-yellow colour; faluns are formed from sediments and an accumulation of fossil shells of a frankly marine fauna with fossils of marine shells, corals, fish remains, reptiles and marine mammals. The faluns were used to backfill roads, manufacture coatings - the crépit of the house of Vouzailles - and to lighten soil in agriculture. The discovery trail is equipped with reading tables and educational panels explaining the landscape, flora and geology of the site.
