FORTRESS OF ANGLES
A fortress, overlooking the village with an exceptional panorama and bearing witness to centuries of history and wars.
The place, to build a fortress, was providential: perched on its promontory, the castle overhangs the village of nearly 40 meters above the Anglin. The site is also exceptional for the panorama offered. A real treat for the eyes! The first keep of the fortress dates from the 11th century. Its origin is uncertain : its construction would have been requested by Hugues VI de Lusignan, or by Isembert1st, bishop of Poitiers. It underwent various transformations until the 15th century and was at the center of wars until the beginning of the 18th century.

Le château devient carrière publique après la Révolution et il en reste aujourd’hui quelques murs majestueux et tours. Nous les avons observés de loin car il ne semble pas y avoir grand-chose à visiter.
