ACADIAN FARM
La ferme acadienne n° 6 offers a look back at the history of the Acadian Line and the Acadians who arrived in Poitou in 1773.
In the 17th century, French families emigrated to Canada and settled in Acadia. With the English invasion, the Acadians were forced to leave their lands and return to France. They landed in Châtellerault in 1773. To house them and give them work, some fifty farms were built in the countryside by the Marquis Pérusse des Cars. Many of the families left for overseas. A visit to farm no. 6 will give you all the details of this history, the construction of these farms and the links between Acadia and Poitou.
