BUSSET CASTLE
The Château de Busset has a beautiful terrace overlooking the French and Italian gardens.
This architectural masterpiece gracefully blends the medieval and Renaissance periods. Both a fortress and a family home, it was built at the end of the 13th century by the Grand Master of the Templars, Renaud de Vichy. In the 14th century, it became the property of the lord of Tourzel, baron of Allègre. His great-granddaughter, Marguerite, married in 1498 Pierre de Bourbon, chamberlain of Louis XII. From then on, the Bourbon-Bussets, a non-regnant branch of the descendants of Saint Louis, never left this house. Philippe de Bourbon-Busset took Louise, daughter of Caesar Borgia, as his wife in 1530. One enters the enclosure by a drawbridge restored in the 19th century. The external aspect of the castle remains imposing: rectilinear walls protected by moats, large keep crowned with machicolations and battlements, imposing feudal tower of Orion. A beautiful terrace overlooks the French and Italian gardens. If the interior is not currently accessible, the exterior of the castle is easily visible from the village
