BRIDGE SUSPENDED
This 1932 bridge, which links the departmental road to the center of Bonneuil, is the last suspension bridge on the Vienne river.
Until the 19th century, the Vienne was crossed by ferry from the port. The first suspension bridge dates back to 1845 and the second one (the current one) was inaugurated in 1932. It was one of the first bridges built on the Vienne, in this southern part of Châtellerault. Its two bearing cables are each made of 889 helical steel wires. The bridge connects the departmental road to the town center. Made of steel, it is one of the last suspension bridges in France. Its twin in Vicq-sur-Gartempe disappeared in 1989. In its kind, it is even unique in the world.
