CHÂTEAU D'ÉPANVILLIERS - MUSEUM OF ANCIENT GAMES
16th century castle housing the Museum of the old game, one of the two museums of the game in France, with a hundred pieces
This former 16th-century dwelling, converted into a castle in the following century, is home to the Musée du jeu ancien. Its owner, Berthold Rordorf, is an enthusiast. A guided tour of the 30 rooms takes visitors back in time to the history of the site and of games, going back to the origins of the Aztec ulama or ephedrismos, an ancient Greek game. Around a hundred pieces are on display, including a magnificent tric-trac, dice, cards, an 18th-century game of goose and rarities such as these Egyptian game pieces.
