LA LANTERNE DES MORTS
Lanterne des morts (lantern for the dead), dating from the early century, is a rare find in France and has been a listed monument since 1840.
In the middle of the cemetery, it stands 8.5 meters tall. It dates from the early 13th century. Only 31 are still standing in France, making it a rare heritage today. At the top, the four bays are oriented towards the four cardinal points. As part of the cult of the dead, these lanterns may have been intended to carry light to the cemetery and, like stone candles, keep a flame burning near the graves. It has been a listed monument since 1840. The former parish church (11th century) can also be seen.
