CAFÉ DE L’ESPÉRANCE
An institution taken over by Carlos Matos, bringing his Iberian touch to l'Espé, it offers not only coffees, but also Spanish specialties.
At the reception desk, behind the counter, is Carlos Matos, the bar's owner. A former regular at this institution, he took over from Gilles Thiollet while realizing his childhood dream. His grandparents owned a restaurant in Spain, and he had always dreamed of running his own business. So he's delighted to have taken over this bar steeped in history, where people of all ages come together. So, at any time of day, anyone can come in for a coffee and a chat. If the flag on the wall doesn't tip you off, for lunch and dinner, it's time for tapas. The manager puts his native country in the spotlight with tortillas, patatas bravas and their spicy sauce, pintxo with Iberian ham or, on Saturdays, a Spanish dish such as croquetas or Spanish-style calamari. Bienvenido!
